Custom e-commerce platforms — Next.js storefronts + headless commerce + custom POS.

We build custom e-commerce platforms for retailers across the United States, Canada, and Pakistan. Modern Next.js / React storefronts on top of headless commerce backends, integrated with custom POS for multi-store retail, and engineered around the regional payment rails and operational reality your trade actually requires.

Where off-the-shelf e-commerce stops working

Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, and Magento cover most e-commerce operators well at small-to-mid scale. They become limiting at the boundaries: complex inventory models (used + new, condition grading, made-to-order, B2B + DTC mix), regional payment rails (JazzCash, Easypaisa, 1Link, Interac), custom checkout flows, multi-store + multi-warehouse inventory unification, headless content + commerce splits, or operational software (custom POS, ERP integration) that has to interlock cleanly with the storefront.

For operators at those boundaries, custom e-commerce development delivers the platform that fits the operation — not the operation forced to fit a SaaS template. The tradeoff: upfront build cost ($40k–$200k+) vs ongoing SaaS fees. Typical payback at scale: 18–30 months.

Our combined offer — custom storefront + custom POS + e-commerce SEO engineered together — is what made the CBM Computers Karachi engagement work. Three workstreams in one engagement, with each part strengthening the others.

What we build in a custom e-commerce engagement

  • Custom Next.js / React storefront — server-rendered, mobile-first, custom design system. Full control over UX + conversion experimentation.
  • Headless commerce backend — choice of Shopify Hydrogen (Shopify catalog with custom frontend), Saleor, Medusa, BigCommerce headless, or fully custom Postgres-backed engine depending on scale.
  • Custom POS integration — one inventory across online + in-store. POS terminal software, receipt printing, barcode scanning, end-of-day reconciliation — all integrated with the e-commerce backend.
  • Custom checkout — multi-step, single-page, embedded, split-checkout. No Shopify Plus pricing required.
  • Regional payment rails — JazzCash, Easypaisa, 1Link / NIFT for Pakistan; Interac, Moneris for Canada; Stripe + ACH for US; financing partners (Affirm, Klarna) where relevant.
  • Multi-currency, multi-region, multi-language native.
  • Complex product modeling — dual inventory (new + used), condition grading (A/B/C + battery health for electronics), made-to-order, B2B pricing tiers, subscriptions.
  • Inventory management — multi-warehouse, transfer orders, stock-take workflows, low-stock alerts, supplier reorder automation.
  • Schema + SEO engineered in from day one — Product, Offer, AggregateRating, Breadcrumb schema across the catalog. Core Web Vitals in the good zone on mobile + desktop.
  • Migration from Shopify / WooCommerce / Magento / BigCommerce — full data migration + 301 redirect map + parallel run before cutover.
  • Ongoing platform retainer — feature releases, A/B testing, infrastructure, conversion optimization.

How we deliver

  1. 01

    Operations + commerce discovery

Two weeks of walking your operation — back-office, warehouse, store floor (if physical retail), accounting workflow. We map what you actually do, then design the platform around that.

  2. 02

    Architecture + stack decision

Storefront stack, headless backend choice, POS integration approach, payment rail map, integration map (ERP, accounting, shipping, fulfillment). Deliverable: 30-page technical doc with cost + timeline.

  3. 03

    Phased build

Storefront + checkout shipped in 8–12 weeks. POS integration in waves. Migration from current platform in parallel. Live pilot with a subset of products before full cutover.

  4. 04

    Migration + cutover

Data migration from current platform, 301 redirect map, parallel run for 2–4 weeks, cutover on a Sunday with zero customer-visible downtime.

  5. 05

    Operate + improve

Ongoing platform retainer — feature releases driven by your priorities, A/B testing infrastructure, infrastructure cost optimization. You own the codebase and the roadmap.

Frequently asked

How is custom e-commerce different from Shopify or BigCommerce?+

Custom is your code, your database, your roadmap. No per-transaction fees, no theme limits, no vendor lock-in. The tradeoff: upfront build cost vs ongoing SaaS fees. Custom wins at scale (typically past $5M GMV) and in operations where the SaaS template doesn't fit (custom POS, used inventory, B2B + DTC mix, regional payment rails).

Do you build POS alongside e-commerce?+

Yes — combined POS + e-commerce engagements are common. One inventory across online + in-store, one customer record, one order history. The CBM Computers Karachi engagement is exactly this — custom POS + custom Next.js storefront + integrated SEO in one engagement.

Can you migrate from Shopify / WooCommerce / Magento / BigCommerce?+

Yes — all four are common migration sources. Customer history, orders, products, reviews, subscription data migrate cleanly. 301 redirect map preserves SEO. Parallel run for 2–4 weeks before cutover. No customer-visible downtime during the move.

What's the difference between this and the Shopify Alternative page?+

Shopify Alternative is specifically for operators migrating away from Shopify or Shopify Plus. E-commerce Development is the broader service — covers new builds, redesigns, migrations from non-Shopify platforms, POS integration, headless commerce, and custom platform builds.

Do you work with retailers in Pakistan?+

Yes — Pakistan is one of our active markets. CBM Computers Karachi is our flagship e-commerce engagement in the region. PKR invoicing, regional payment rails (JazzCash, Easypaisa, 1Link), Urdu language support, and Pakistan-targeted SEO are all native to our engagements there.

How long does a custom build take?+

Sprint engagements 6–10 weeks. Starter platform 12–16 weeks. Full custom platform 4–6 months. We always ship to a live pilot in the first 8–10 weeks — never a 6-month silent build.

Do we own the code?+

Yes. Every line of code, the entire database, all integrations — yours. We deliver source code, deployment infrastructure, documentation, and a knowledge transfer to your internal team or designated successor.
